Backgrounders
The Morning News
bestowed an award to Economist.com this week for its usability-loaded Backgrounders feature. Backgrounders are
short synopses of current events that provide historical context for current articles. The best way to experience Backgrounders is through
topical articles that have rich histories (view the Related Items box two paragraphs into the piece). We introduced the feature in 2001, when I was design director, and they serve their purpose well, if quietly. It's nice to see them get some recognition.
